IRCC Processing Time Checker

Turn the processing time IRCC posts for your application into dates: when the clock started, when the posted time ends and days left or past it.

IRCC processing times are posted on IRCC’s own Check processing times page and change often, so this checker does not store them. Enter the number IRCC shows for your application and the date IRCC received it, and you get the date the posted time ends plus how many days are left or how far past it you are.

This is an estimate, not legal or immigration advice. Only IRCC / CRA / Service Canada decide your case – check the official source before you act. This is an independent tool from canadaever.com; it is not made by, endorsed by or connected to IRCC or the Government of Canada. Data checked: 2026-10-27.

How to use the IRCC processing time checker

  1. Open IRCC’s Check processing times page (opens canada.ca) and find your application type.
  2. Pick the same application group in the checker, for your own reference.
  3. Choose whether you applied online or by mail.
  4. Enter the date IRCC received your application: the day you submitted online, or the day your paper application arrived in IRCC’s mailroom.
  5. Type the processing time IRCC shows, and choose days, weeks or months.
  6. Leave today’s date as is (it fills in from your device) or change it to plan ahead, then select Check my dates.

The result shows when the processing clock started, when IRCC’s posted time would end, how many days have passed, and either the days remaining or how many days you are beyond the posted time. If something is missing or out of range, such as an application date in the future, the checker shows a message explaining what to fix. Nothing you type is sent anywhere; the maths runs in your browser.

The checker accepts up to 3650 days, 520 weeks or 120 months. These are input limits of this calculator only, not IRCC rules or limits.

How the processing time is counted

According to IRCC, “your processing time starts the day we receive your complete application and ends when we make a decision on it.” For online applications the clock starts when you submit; for paper applications it starts when the application arrives in IRCC’s mailroom.

The checker adds the posted time to that start date:

  • Days: start date + the number of days.
  • Weeks: start date + 7 × the number of weeks.
  • Months: the same day of the month, that many months later. If that day does not exist (for example the 31st in a 30-day month), the last day of the month is used.

It then counts the days between the start date and today, and between today and the end date.

What an IRCC processing time tells you (and what it does not)

IRCC explains that it uses two methods for its posted processing time. Some are forward-looking estimates, based on the backlog and the number of applications IRCC expects to finish each month. Others are historical: “how long it took us to process 80% of that type of application in the past” (6 months for permanent residence applications, 8 to 16 weeks for temporary residence applications). With a historical time, roughly 1 in 5 applications take longer than the posted figure.

That is why an IRCC processing times calculator or tool like this one can only give you a date to plan around, not a promise. IRCC lists several reasons an application can take longer: it was incomplete, it is complex, it needs extra security checks, or the program cap was reached.

IRCC lists extra security checks as one reason an application can take longer. This checker does not estimate the duration of an individual background or security check.

If you are past the posted time, you can check your application status online through IRCC’s Check your application status page (opens canada.ca). IRCC also notes that “calling us won’t help your application get processed faster.” Because posted times change, re-check IRCC’s Check processing times page (opens canada.ca) before you make plans and run the checker again with the new figure. For a broader overview by program, see our IRCC processing times guide.

Methodology & sources

The checker stores no processing-time numbers. The clock-start rules, the 80% historical method, the delay reasons and the list of application groups come from IRCC’s Check processing times page. Date maths uses calendar days; months are added to the same day of the month with an end-of-month adjustment. The amount limits (3650 days, 520 weeks, 120 months) are calculator input limits, not IRCC policy.

  • IRCC: Check processing times (opens canada.ca): live processing times, when the clock starts, how times are calculated, why applications can take longer.
  • IRCC: Check your application status (opens canada.ca): where to follow your application.

FAQ

When does my IRCC processing time start?

IRCC says processing time starts the day it receives your complete application. For online applications that is the day you submit; for paper applications it is the day the application arrives in IRCC’s mailroom.

Why does this checker not show IRCC processing times itself?

IRCC updates its posted times often, so a stored copy would be out of date within days. You read the current number on IRCC’s Check processing times page and the checker does the date maths.

What does it mean if I am past the posted processing time?

Historical posted times show how long it took IRCC to process 80% of that type of application in the past, so about 1 in 5 applications take longer. Incomplete or complex files, extra security checks or a reached program cap can add time.

Will calling IRCC speed up my application?

No. IRCC states that calling will not help your application get processed faster. Check your status online through IRCC’s Check your application status page instead.

How does the checker count months?

Months are added calendar-style: the same day of the month, n months later. If that day does not exist, the last day of that month is used, so January 31 plus 1 month is February 28 in 2026.
